Polite Society (2023)

It may sound cliché but what I’m really craving these days is originality. That doesn’t mean that I don’t love certain sequels or remakes or movies that take inspiration from past films, but I want it to be done with a unique and fresh take that leaves me feeling invigorated and/or inspired after I finish it.

Polite Society satisfied that craving.

The film follows Ria Kahn, an amateur stunt person whose older sister become engaged to a man that Ria believes has sinister motives for proposing. Ria must fight (literally and figuratively) to save her sister before it’s too late.

Polite Society takes inspiration from action, martial arts, Bollywood, and horror films, while also delivering a heavy dose of hilarity throughout. Through this mix, the movie somehow pulls off the feat of feeling comfortingly familiar and refreshingly new simultaneously.

So, it’s a badass and hilarious action movie but wait, there’s more! It’s also incredibly empowering, with a cast full of strong female leads. YES Hollywood, it can be done. Another point for originality!

So, whether you’re looking for something fresh or you’re just looking for a fun flick, Polite Society is definitely worth the watch!
