“A robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own.” – IMDB

Let me begin by sharing that I am still getting my horror/scary movie footing. For the last 31 years of my life, I refused to watch almost anything within the genre; however, I have turned over a new leaf this year and have decided not to completely cut myself off from the genre. However, I still get a little nervous going into these movies, not just because they could potentially be terrifying, but because I’ve seen enough to know that I get irritated very easily if I feel that they are wasting my time.
I was nervous that M3GAN would give away all the goods upfront in its absolutely ridiculous trailer, which might be one of the best trailers of all time. Especially after watching Don’t Worry Darling, I thought that M3GAN might make the same mistake and leave nothing else for the audience.
BOY, WAS I WRONG. The film still has plenty to offer, though maybe not in the way of horror. Instead, our entire theater, my friend, and I laughed our asses off. I loved how the filmmakers leaned into the complete ridiculousness of the entire situation, while still making the storyline entertaining enough to sustain interest. The acting was just right, with a mix of terror, bewilderment, and amusement, and the pace was perfect, with the movie ending at just the right amount of time, when the story could have otherwise become tedious.
So, while lovers of true horror might be disappointed by the lack of jump scares or suspense, I was thrilled at what a wild and enjoyable ride M3GAN ended up being. And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would absolutely watch it again!
