“In this action-packed comedy, Nicolas Cage plays Nick Cage, channeling his iconic characters as he’s caught between a superfan and a CIA agent.” -IMDB

It can be very refreshing, especially when you see new movies as often as I do, to watch a movie that is exactly what it promotes itself to be. Let me clarify…
The trailer for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is one of the best I’ve seen in a while. It’s a throwback to the golden age (80s and 90s) of movie trailers. All of the best action and comedic bits of the movie are packed into it. It’s meta. And it’s Nicholas Cage. Even better, it’s Nicholas Cage taking the piss out of Nicholas Cage. What more could you want?
Well, hopefully not too much more.
Many of the best action sequences and funniest bits of the movie do reside within the two minute trailer, but that doesn’t mean that this movie wasn’t a fun watch. It’s escapist, ridiculous, and everyone seemed to be having tons of fun making it. And for any fans of Raising Arizona or Valley Girl, you’ll be happy to see Nicholas Cage back in his rightful place as a comedic lead.
So my advice to you would be to manage your expectations on this film. If you go in expecting a pitch-perfect action/comedy, then you’re going to set yourself up for disappointment. But if you go in with no pre-conceived notions and just take the film for what it is, then I think you’ll be in a for a fun, wild ride. And who knows, maybe this could be the beginning of the Cage-aissasnce?
